Picture Wall

A long time ago I spotted a picture wall idea that I liked on Nie Nie.  On the wall above/behind her dining table she had oversized photos of her children simply taped in overlap all over.  The sincerity of it, the simplicity, inspired me.  When we moved into our new house I kept envisioning a picture frame painted on the wall above our own dining table.  I could see in my mind what I wanted so I searched for stencils or vinyl cut outs to help make it happen.  But alas, I found nothing.  And then...
my sister-in-law bought me this platter from Hip and Humble in Salt Lake City for my birthday.  This became my inspiration.  Its silhouette wasn't quite what I had envisioned but what I had envisioned did not exist!  So, not to be stunted, I went to work with what I had on hand.

I traced the platter, doubling the length, onto a piece of butcher paper.  This became one half of the shape that I wanted.  I taped it to the wall, traced it onto the wall, flipped it over and traced the other side.
With a fairly small brush, I painted it black within the lines.  You could use any color really and probably will if you're more creative than I!  You could even paint it with chalkboard paint or magnetic paint.  When it dries, simply tape up your photos, rotating and overlapping them as you see fit.
My photo collage is definitely not where I'd like it to be yet, but I'm getting there.  It grows a little with every great photo taken...which is somewhat few and far between when the woman behind the camera is me.  But luckily, I have beautiful children;)  Here's to more great photos!
xoxo

  1. Every house needs a photowall like this. I wish I'd develop my pictures more often, they tend to stay trapped in my computer...
